2004-07-22 A Bored Dolphin A bored dolphin can come up with some pretty bizarre behaviors. A funny example is the summer at one oceanarium when all the dolphins went crazy for seeing if they could balance on the tops of the walls around their tanks. Usually they could, but sometimes they fell out onto the walkways around the paths, and the oceanarium workers had to get together and heave the dolphins back into the tanks. (We're talking about hoisting 400 slippery pounds over a waist-high wall.) When the workers saw dolphin... more->

2004-07-06 I have a job!
For the time being, at least.
So, as a general rule, anytime data in a database is manipulated, it should be automated. Or, at least, automatable. I understand that when data is entered there is no way to automate the process, but I'm sitting here changing one field from 'Mail' to 'Do not Mail' for over 1000 database entries, one at a time. The issue of privilege has a long history in the field of civil struggle. For example, the activist community was split in the early 1800's over whether the suffragist movement could coexist with the anti-slavery movement. Everyone involved knew that women were being treated as second-class citizens, but did they really have the right to complain about it while others were still enslaved? Wouldn't a secondary campaign for women's rights take away support for the abolitionists?

2004-07-04 Untitled Hoo-ah! I just got off an eleven-hour work call at the Mariott theatre ($13 an hour, I'm not complaining) and made myself a stiff drink. A very stiff drink: my eyes are crossed. This may be, in part, due to the drinking game I played all day: every time I scrapped my back on a low-hanging part of the theatre (I was in a small crawlspace all day long) I would do a shot when I got home. Only five shots later, and my eyes are crossed. Who knew Drambuie was so potent? I made myself a drink, too, to celebrate: <... more->

2004-07-02 Untitled I've had an eventful life, all of a sudden. Currently, I'm a little intoxicated after celebrating the fact that I have failed to screw myself over financially, so bear with me.
I've been unemployed for a month and a half, and so I was down to my last $441 in the bank. Yesterday, of course, I mailed off my rent check -- $448. Argh. So I ran down to the bank to use my mother's credit card to get a $20 cash advance, and cover the check. My mother's credit card expired two days ago. I have the new card... s... more->
