The Letter of Marque
by Patrick O'Brien
Another Aubrey / Maturin novel. I do love these, but they are not to be read too soon after one another. I notice that he plays little tricks, where in novel #8, perhaps, a character will be depicted as generous to a fault, but by novel #14 the same the plot requires that the character have a history of penny-pinching (for example). It's never major plot points, and I'm sure I'd never notice if I had read them as they were being published, but as it is the ret-cons do stand out, rather.
